Gates Bar-B-Q: Authentic Kansas City Barbecue with Legendary Ribs & Burnt Ends

Everything was amazing! We had a beef Nooner and a chicken link all under $30. The service was incredible. The staff was so friendly and helped us pick what to order and checked on us throughout our meal. Their best kept secret is chicken wings. You must buy their sauces and rubs. This was an awesome experience!

Overall good barbecue! Definitely easy to overindulge. This was my introduction to kansas city barbecue and its definitely distinct from the texas barbecue I am used to but the flavors are there. Burnt ends mac and cheese was my favorite item we got. Would go back if I am ever in KC again.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Gates BBQ, and it completely lived up to its legendary reputation. The ribs were perfectly tender, with a smoky flavor that made every bite unforgettable. I went in not knowing much about bbq being from the east coast. The burnt-end sandwich was a 5/5: messy after the first couple bites but dipping my fries in the bbq sauce just felt right. It was not as umami as I expected. It had more of a grilled savory twang. The sauce had a tomato base and didn’t have that sugary taste it was a nice twist.

I was suggested by Gemini for a lunch. Burnt ends taste good. A bit hard to understand the menu. Soft drink size is too big to finish for me. Pickle was too salty. I only ate couple and couldn't finish it. The meat was very delicious. A traditional KC style BBQ and I am love to come back again! Staff was nice and friendly.

From the quality of the food to the outstanding hospitality, everything was five-star. I highly recommend Gates BBQ to anyone looking for amazing barbecue and customer service that goes above and beyond. I will absolutely be back!

Landed hungry and ready to eat all the way from Texas. I got the mixed plate, ribs,ham, and beef. All were unique i like the beef the most, ham second, and ribs 3rd. Tough ribs , just had an expectation of fall off the bone and it was super stuck on the bone. I enjoyed the service and just the quality of service. All staff very friendly and accommodating. I'd recommend stopping in, the beef and ham definitely are worth it. Fries they are filling they are not shy about the fries and if you ask for the seasoning it's getting it on everything.

I traveled from Virginia primarily for Gates BBQ, as I always do! I usually stop at the Emanuel Cleaver location, but I decided to change it up a bit this time. I stopped in around 1:45 PM on 2/23/2026 and was greeted and served by Christina—she was phenomenal! Friendly, professional, and entirely in control of the line, she knew precisely who was next and what each customer had ordered. What stood out was her patience with an elderly couple who seemed to be experiencing Gates for the first time—I have no doubt they’ll be back! Before hitting the road, I ordered two slabs wrapped for travel and a center cut to enjoy now. Christina nailed my order perfectly, and I couldn’t be happier.
